Riding in Tusheti for 5 days — overnights in guesthouses. During the tour, you will see Alaverdi Cathedral and three Tushetian valleys: Chagma, Pirikiti, and Chanchakhovani, as well as Lake Oreti.

Brief information about Tusheti

Tusheti is a historical region in Georgia. Moreover, it is the most fascinating and pristine high-mountain region. This part of Georgia is located in the Kakheti region, Akhmeta municipality (900-4800m above sea level). This area is under environmental protection as part of the Tusheti Protected Areas (1137 sq km). This region is on the tentative  UNESCO World Heritage list.

Administratively, Tusheti is a part of the municipality of Akhmeta, and the largest village in Tusheti is Omalo. Historically, Tusheti is comprised of four mountain communities:

  • Tsova
  • Gometsari 
  • Pirikiti 
  • Chaghma

Tusheti is an area that preserves the spirit of the past. Here, time seems to stand still. The vast majority of inhabitants are shepherds. However, these people are friendship-minded and willing to talk to strangers; they like to absorb the world’s news and share local culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi – Alaverdi – Lower Omalo – Dartlo - Chesho
Departure at 7 p.m. On the way, we will visit Alaverdi Monastery. It will take about 8-9 hours to travel to Tusheti. The road is so beautiful that you will not get bored. At the middle of the road we will have lunch. Around 4:00 pm, you will be in village Chesho. After a short rest, we will drive to see village Parsma.
Return to the guesthouse in Chesho (Lunch/Dinner)

Driving time 9 hours; Minimal altitude: 200m Maximal Altitude: 2960m; Walking 2 Km
Day 2: Horse riding tour in Pirikiti Gorge: Dano - Kvavlo - Dartlo
After breakfast riding to village Dano. This beautiful village with towers is standing up to Dartlo. From here are perfect views of Pirikiti gorge. We will continue our riding to Kvavlo, and with the mountain-path will come down to Dartlo. Lunch in nature.

Horse riding distance 16 Km; Minimal altitude: 1700 m; Maximal Altitude: 2250m
Day 3: Horse riding on Unagira mountain (3050m)
After Breakfast we will start riding and go to Unagira mountain. (3050m) Here you will have picturesque views on both: Pirikiti and Gometsari valley. From the top of the range, you will see villages: Bochorna, Dartlo, Kvavlo and Chesho. This riding-route is the most beautiful from the middle of June until the middle of July, with flowering Rhododendron and a small lake on the top of the range.

Horse-riding distance 16 km; Minimal altitude: 1900 m; Maximal altitude: 3050m
Day 4: Horse riding tour to Oreti Lake
After Breakfast we will start horse riding tour to Oreti lake. This lake is located 2600 m high. During this horse-riding tour, you will visit the shepherd’s house. From the top of this mountain, you will see all the Tushetian gorges. In the evening, you will come back to the village Omalo full of unforgettable memories.
Return to the guesthouse (FB)

Horse riding distance: 23 km. Minimal altitude: 1700 m. Maximal altitude: 2850 m.
Day 5: Transfer to Tbilisi
9 am, you’ll have breakfast. 

Driving back to Tbilisi. (Breakfast/Lunch)

In Tusheti there is no pharmacy. So if someone has a specific disease and is treated with a special drug, then he has to buy in Tbilisi before starting the tour or must have it with him.
