Our Day Tour in David Gareji Monastery takes place in the south part of the region Kakheti, east Georgia. First, we will drive through the Gareji semi-desert, the only semi-desert in Georgia. The most beautiful time of year here is spring, especially in April when the grass is still green and covered with thousands of different colors of flowers. The first destination of the excursion is the David Gareji monastery complex (founded in the VI century). In the Middle Ages, this used to be an important religious and cultural center. The complex consists of 20 monasteries spread throughout the Gareji desert, but the tourist route only leads to – Lavra.
The Lavra Monastery is the central and largest of the 20 monastic enclaves at David Gareji. What makes this site truly exceptional are the remarkable frescoes that adorn its cave walls. These frescoes, created by devout monks in the 9th century, depict religious scenes and saints with astonishing precision and vividness. The caves provide an insight into the artistic and spiritual expressions of the medieval era.
After enjoying a day tour of David Gareji landscapes, you might consider visiting Sighnaghi, a charming town known for its well-preserved city walls and stunning views of the Alazani Valley. You also can visit some of the wineries, such as Giauaani or Vellino winery.
