Atsunta Pass Horse Riding 9 days tour starts from Tbilisi. Overnights in tents and guesthouses. During the tour, first, you will visit the ancient city of Mtskheta. Later you will visit Khevsureti. Than traverse Atsunta pass to Tusheti. From there you will drive to the wine region of Kakheti and visit there some wineries.
Attention: It is strongly prohibited to take to Tusheti any food made from pork, anything made from pig’s skin!!! It is tradition.
Khevsureti is a remote mountainous district in northern Georgia, located between Kazbegi and Tusheti regions. Therefore, Tusheti is located on the north slopes of the great Caucasus range from the west. So, it borders Khevsureti, and these provinces are divided by the Atsunta range. North is Chechnia, the border is on the Pirikita range, and the east is Dagestan, the border is on the Akazma range. So surrounded from all sides by ranges. In Tusheti there are 3 gorges, Pirikita gorge, Gometsari gorge, and Chanchakhovani Gorge.
The scenery everywhere is spectacular. It is a mix of snow-covered rocky peaks, deep gorges, tower-dotted villages, and steep, grassy hillsides. Meanwhile, the whole area of Tusheti is under environmental protection as the Tusheti Protected Areas (1137 sq km). Also, this region is on the tentative list of the UNESCO world heritage.
